Are You Swiffing When You Could Be Saving?

Are You Swiffing When You Could Be Saving?

As a child, every Saturday my Mother would send us out into the back yard to play while she was down on her hands and knees washing the kitchen, bathroom and hallway floors.

I’m sure you’ve heard the expression of women down on their knees praying while washing floors. Mom was probably wishing she could be out playing with us instead. She taught me that the only way to get a really clean floor was to be down on your hands and knees. No mop for her!

Is Your Mop Costing You A New Car Payment?

We’ve all seen the ads and tried the products with the replaceable sheets that you just toss in the garbage. Every month you have to purchase more products which make the manufacturer very happy. What about your budget and your floors? We get the impression one sheet will mop the whole house but this is not so. Would you use a regular mop and wash all your floors without rinsing or changing the mop head? The disposable sheets are only good for an approx. 12’x10’ room. The high quality microfiber mop will cost you approx. $99.99 and last you a lifetime. Purchasing 2 pkg. of Swiffer Wet per month @ $5.76/pkg will cost you $138.24 per year! This doesn’t include the Swiffer Dry which would cost you an additional $138.24 per year.  In 5 years you could save $1,328.24 just by replacing the Swiffer system with a good quality microfiber mop.

Are You Just Moving The Dirt Around?

Whether you are using a sponge, disposable sheet, or the ring-out mops they all will leave dirt behind which attracts more dirt.  I know I’ve used them all!  The chemical cleaners you need to use with them leave residue and soil on the surface. As dirt is left behind the floor surface gets dirty again faster as dirt attracts dirt. I remember scrubbing one of those linoleum floors with the small pores and never being able to get all that dirt out that collected in the pores.

Having The Right Mop Can Save You Time And Energy

Getting a good quality mop is the key. Paying a little more up front saves you time and energy over the long haul.

Here are 5 Tips To Remember:

  • Microfiber mops only need water to remove 99.9% of the bacteria saving you money and time purchasing chemical cleaners. Good quality microfiber mops will have a guarantee with them. For a product to be called microfiber on the market the fibers only have to be 1/16th the width of a strand of hair. Your microfiber mop should be at least 1/100th the width of a strand of hair in order to remove the bacteria and do a good job.
  • The Velcro should be strong enough to withstand removing the mop head regularly.
  • Create more leisure time. Purchasing an extra wet mop head can save you more time and energy as well. You just throw on the clean mop and save rinsing for later.
  • Save your back! Your mop should have a telescopic handle so you can adjust it according to your height. The mop handle should be at your chin or shoulder height. This way you are not bending over. Also make sure it is good quality material that won’t break.
  • Is your mop guaranteed? Make sure the company you purchase your mop from has a guarantee and a minimum 2 year warranty. This way you know you are getting a good product for your money.

Sound Too Good To Be True?

Testing has been done in Hospitals in Norway, China and in the USA.  A study done in Eidsvoll, Norway began in September 2003 and ended in January 2004. The purpose of the project was to conduct a study on the long-term development of microbialogical particles when you clean with microfiber the surfaces and areas that are in daily use in a hospital. The study is done using daily regular sanitary and cleaning routines, using only microfiber cleaning products and water on floors and other surfaces at Feiringklinikken in Eidsvoll Norway.
“The final conclusion, both in the kitchen and in the surgery ward, is that the microfiber cleaning products and the cleaning routines are of excellent quality. This is comforting for the patients as well as for the staff at the clinic” (quote from Sissel Berg Larsen Head Hygiene Nurse Feiringklinikken taken from the Norwex Enviro Products  Comprehensive Information Booklet  by Sheri Gauthier)

The University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, first used the microfiber mops in a pilot test beginning in summer 1999, and within one year it completely replaced conventional loop mops with the microfiber alternative in all patient care areas. The program resulted in three measurable economic benefits:
• 60% lifetime cost savings for mops
• 95% reduction in chemical costs associated with mopping tasks
• 20% labor savings per day

These tests were done using high quality microfiber 1/100th the strand of a human hair.

Keep your home healthier and our landfills smaller by purchasing a good quality microfiber mop. You CAN get a very clean floor without getting down on your hands and knees. Now you can do better and have more time with the family and save money to. Using a good quality microfiber mop will do just that.
